The DSE Fair puts a face on the companies

Mathilde Jul Sørensen studies electrical energy technology at Aalborg University and expects to graduate in 2020.
Why the DSE Fair?
“I attend the DSE Fair every year, and would definitely recommend it to other students. Usually I just read about the companies, but at the Fair you have a chance to put human faces onto the different engineering companies, and that is nice when you study a technical education. You can talk to the people who work in the companies — not just their concrete engineering work, but also about the companies in general.”
What did you get from the Fair?
“I have spoken to Maersk and Energinet about their two year graduate programmes. I now know that that’s what I want to aim for when I finish my studies. It sounds like it grants a nice transition to the working life. But I think I would get more out of that sort of conversation when I am further in my studies, and it all becomes more realistic.”
How did the Fair inspire you?
“It was interesting to meet someone from Energinet, who graduated from Aalborg University last year, from my exact studies. He said that we shouldn’t hold back when contracting Energinet, if we have any ideas for projects. So it’s nice to know that you don’t have to fear starting a dialogue if you have a project that would make sense for both parties.”
Resolution about bachelor of engineering or masters degree

Stefan Kjeldgaard is studying his fifth semester on the BA ‘global business systems’ at Aalborg University, and used the Fair to get resolution about his choice
of master’s degree.
Why the DSE Fair?
“Shortly after the Fair, I had to inform my university about whether I wanted to do a masters degree in ‘business systems’, or if I wanted to do an internship and get a bachelor of engineering instead. I went to the Fair to talk to companies about internships.”
What did you get from the Fair?
“I think I talked to ten companies. I was there with some classmates, and we started by planning whom we were interested in talking to, using the catalogue. Then we walked around and talked to the companies about the possibilities of internships.”
How has the Fair inspired you?
“I got insights into what companies wants us for, and what they’re looking for in future employees. And I got resolution about choosing the masters degree. A masters degree will provide better options to teach later in life, and I may want to do that. All the conversations at the Fair helped me figure out if I’m ready to enter the workforce, or if it would be beneficial to me to study a few more years.”
Good contacts for job or internship

Mathias Ottosen is getting a master of science in engineering, majoring in software, and expects to graduate in 2019.
Why the DSE Fair?
“I have been on sabbatical from my studies the last half year and am looking for a job or internship until I can start the studies again in the fall of 2018.”
What did you get from the Fair?
“The Fair is a good way to get an overview of which companies need you. It’s very different to meet people here than to read the listings from home where you can get very focused on whether you fulfill every criteria they have. It’s good for your confidence to meet people personally, to talk to them as peers, and hear what they do for a living. Based on the catalogue, I had a list of companies I wanted to talk to. I spoke to all of them and asked the questions I wanted to ask. Several companies presented some programming tasks, which I solved, and that way I was able to prove — to myself — that I knew my stuff.”
How has the Fair inspired you?
“I talked to a lot of companies, and afterwards I went home and made a poster with contacts and business cards. I’m going to go on LinkedIn and apply for the ones I’m most interested in. It was actually nice to see it wasn’t just me who need a job. It’s also the companies who need someone like me. For instance, a number of companies in Sønderborg has joined forces to attract engineers, and in the end of October, they’re arranging a bus trip there, and I’m going.”
DSE Fair reveals new opportunities

Josefine Karna Corfrits Johansen is doing her masters degree in chemistry at Aalborg University and expects to graduate in 2018.
Why the DSE Fair?
“It is in the hopes of finding some good companies that need someone like me. It can be a bit hard when you don’t have a set job title. Chemistry is very broad. There are a lot of possibilities and a ton of companies who has chemists — but where are they? I hope the Fair will answer that for me. The color coding helps, so you can tell what studies each company is interested in.”
What did you get out of the Fair?
“I have spoken to every company that marked interest in chemists, one by one. I’ve probably spoken to 10 to 15 companies. Several of them has graduates programmes or mentors. It seems like very interesting possibilities.”
How did the Fair inspire you?
“I am positively surprised that Forsvaret marked that they wanted to speak to chemists, because I wondered what a chemist would do there. My immediate thought was, wrongly, something to do with bombs. But it was actually very interesting to speak to them, and they have a lot of ideas about what to use a chemist for, for instance in relation to quality control or project work. I never thought I’d be the kind of person who would join the forces, but I might. The Fair has definitely opened my eyes for some possibilities I never knew.”
